Why Belize

A bank built for people who don't live there.

Most good banks want to see you in person. Ideally, they also want proof that you or your company has real ties to their country. For offshore companies and for Americans, that list of options gets very short, very quickly.

Caye International Bank holds an unrestricted Class A international banking license from the Central Bank of Belize. That license exists specifically to serve individuals and companies based outside Belize.

In other words: foreign clients aren't an exception here. They are the entire business.

Regulated, and not a secret account.

Caye is regulated by the Central Bank of Belize and is FATCA-compliant, and Belize exchanges account information under the OECD's Common Reporting Standard. This is about diversifying where you bank, not about hiding money or avoiding tax.

Why Caye International Bank

A boutique bank with a banker you can call.

Caye is a smaller bank headquartered on Ambergris Caye. That size is part of the appeal: you deal with a named banker you can call or message, not a call centre.

Its clients come mostly from North America and Europe, and it was the first bank in Belize to become FATCA-compliant, which is why it can still work with US citizens and US companies.

Who Banks At Caye

A specific tool for specific situations.

Caye is not a holy grail. But for the situations below, it fills a gap that very few other licensed banks will.

01

Offshore Company Accounts

You have the structure but no bank. Caye accepts entities from many jurisdictions, including Belize and Seychelles IBCs, Hong Kong companies, US LLCs and foundations, without travel.

Most common use
02

Americans Abroad

Many offshore banks turn away US persons because of FATCA reporting. Caye accepts them, with a one-time FATCA fee.

03

Currency Diversification

Hold part of your savings outside both the US and European banking systems, in USD, EUR, GBP, CAD or CHF.

04

Central American Property

Caye offers real estate loans in Belize, Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where financing for foreign buyers is otherwise rare.

05

Gold-Backed Credit

Store gold in a Zurich vault and borrow up to 75% of its value without selling it. Niche, with a $100,000 minimum in gold.

06

Funds From Crypto

The bank states it accepts fiat that originated from crypto, provided it was converted through an exchange account in your own name or your company's name.

Costs & Trade-Offs

What it costs, and who shouldn't bother.

Caye is a reserve account, not a cheap everyday account and not a place to earn yield. Know the numbers before you apply.

✓ A good fit if you

  • Have an offshore company that needs a bank account without travel
  • Want part of your savings outside the US and EU banking systems

  • Want a simple, low-cost personal account abroad (look at Georgia instead)
  • Are looking for high interest on your savings

Questions

Before you open your account.

Do I need to travel to Belize?

No. Caye opens personal and corporate accounts for non-residents fully remotely. You submit notarized documents and fund the account by international wire. Approval still depends on your profile and the bank's compliance review.

Can Americans open an account?

Yes. Caye is FATCA-compliant and accepts US citizens and US companies. US persons pay a one-time FATCA fee of 250 and complete a W-9 form. Remember that US reporting obligations such as FBAR and FATCA still apply to you.

Which companies can open a corporate account?

The bank accepts entities from many jurisdictions, including Belize and Seychelles IBCs, Hong Kong companies, US LLCs and foundations. You provide the full set of company documents and a corporate resolution, plus the personal documents for each director and shareholder. If a director or shareholder is itself a company, its documents are required too.

Is my money protected?

There is no government deposit insurance. Belize's deposit insurance scheme covers domestic banks and credit unions, not international banks like Caye. What Belize does impose is a strict minimum liquidity ratio of 24% of deposits for international banks. We treat Caye as one part of a diversified setup, not as the only place to keep your money.

Is this a secret or tax-free account?

No. Belize participates in the OECD's Common Reporting Standard and Caye reports under FATCA, so account information can be shared with your home country's tax authority. You remain responsible for declaring the account where you are tax resident.

What happens if my application is declined?

If the bank's compliance team declines the account, the initial deposit is returned to you minus the applicable fees.

Can I deposit money that came from crypto?

The bank states it accepts fiat funds that originated from crypto, as long as the crypto was converted through an exchange account in your own name, or in the name of the company holding the account. Expect to document that trail.
